The holidays have been a roller-coaster for my bride, Joey (fighting cancer). She’s had some good days, some bad days – some wonderful moments, and some deep pain that the morphine just couldn’t seem to touch. How could it… it wasn’t that kind of pain…
A sadness. A fear of the unknown. And even some anger – not at God, just at her situation I suppose. It’s not easy for her to be as excited about what the new year holds in store as it was last year. But she says she’s seen the light, and she’s over that now… More…
The Bible (Eccl. 3:1) and the 60’s rock band, the Byrds, say that “To everything there is a season; and a time for every purpose under heaven.” The summer season is winding down. And for most of us in the Mid-Atlantic states, the temperature was relatively cool and thunder storms were few.
Our trekker, Gary Todd, leader of the Crofton Support Group, has been able to go camping and hiking to his heart’s delight. Charlie Burke, co-lead along with his wife Pat of the Davidsonville/Annapolis Group, has been able to do some home improvements and work on cars. The Bowie Support Group leads have helped at Christian camps and gone on missions trips.
Those groups that took off during the summer will now be back on their regular schedule in September. I’m sure that everyone has a lot to share. Be sure that your support groups stay a safe and caring place for those families fighting cancer to come and share their stories and their struggles.
Like the seasons, circumstances change. During those changes, love one another and care for those in need.
